The flickering screen illuminated Amelia's face as she scrolled through the bank's website. Her stomach churned. Mark always handled the finances. She'd always trusted him, but lately, a tremor of unease had settled in her chest. She needed a new winter coat, and when she'd mentioned it, Mark had winced, suggesting she “wait and see.” That wasn't like him.

The password field blinked mockingly. She knew his birthday, his mother's maiden name, the name of their first dog. Nothing worked. Frustrated, she almost gave up, defeated, but something kept her fingers glued to the keyboard. She tried the anniversary of their first date. Bingo.

There it was: a hefty sum, an account she knew nothing about. A cold sweat prickled her skin.
