“Ride a horse.” Evelyn’s heart pounded as she stared at the list. Her mother, a woman of fierce independence, whose spirit she had always admired from a distance. Evelyn sat in her mother's living room, surrounded by her things. She found comfort in the familiar objects, but a deep uneasiness began to creep in.

Her mother's life had always been a mystery to her. She was always busy. Always had a plan. Always knew how to do everything. Evelyn had always been shielded. Now she was completely exposed.

“Start a business.” The words seemed to jump off the page, mocking her. Evelyn felt a familiar pressure in her chest, a feeling of being suffocated by her own limitations. She could barely manage a phone call without crumbling. How could she possibly run a business?
