“Well, this is just great,” Mark muttered, his voice flat. He had always relied on the structure of the academic calendar, the predictable rhythm of semesters. Now, everything was chaos. His future felt like an open road, with no direction.

He felt a deep sense of unease, a constant knot in his stomach. He’d barely managed his own life. The thought of navigating the complexities of transfer credits, new applications, and a new community was crushing. He called his older brother.

He felt as though he was a small boat, cut adrift on a stormy sea. He wanted someone to chart a course, to steer him toward safety, to give him a reason to think things would be alright.
