The world swam in a haze of uncertainty. This new medication, supposed to help, just made everything worse. Alex found himself clinging to the routine of his therapist's appointments, the only stability in his chaotic life. A safety net, really. He felt a constant pull, an irresistible need to have someone there, a safety officer.

His hands, usually steady, trembled as he poured a glass of water. It sloshed over the side, staining the pristine white tablecloth. He hated the mess. He hated the feeling of utter fragility.

Later that week, at the support group, he saw her. Sarah. She was describing the same symptoms, the same baffling diagnosis. They exchanged a look of bewildered understanding, two shipwreck survivors spotting each other in the waves. Maybe, just maybe, they could help each other.
