The silence of the house was punctuated only by the rhythmic tick of the grandfather clock. Everything moved in slow motion. Time felt different, stretched and distorted. Liam hadn't bothered to eat all day, and the lack of fuel made him feel even more listless. His sister, Jessica, and her daughter, Maya, were scheduled to visit later. A phone notification chimed; a picture message. A drawing. The subject was a knight in shining armor with a crooked smile. Sir Reginald, Liam's childhood companion.
