The world felt muted, a dull echo of its former self. Nothing seemed to hold his interest. The hours slipped by, each one identical to the last. He received a drawing from his niece, Olivia. A little girl with a single, massive eye and long, flowing hair. He felt a pang of surprise, of a forgotten memory, resurfacing. The Seer.

He remembered her, his imaginary friend, whose purpose was to tell him what he couldn't see. He couldn’t bring himself to look at the drawing. He turned away, and the weight on his chest seemed to grow heavier. He felt a strange ache, a deep longing for a comfort he had long forgotten.
