Gemotions

The world felt muted, as if someone had turned down the volume. Colors seemed less vibrant, sounds more distant. He mechanically went through the motions of his day, but his mind was elsewhere, circling a desolate, barren landscape. The rejection letter was a constant shadow.

He walked aimlessly through the park, the rustling leaves and chattering squirrels failing to register. He leaned against a tree, feeling its rough bark against his skin. It offered no solace.

An old woman with a cane passed him, and he had to fight back the tears. He thought about reaching out, about telling someone how he felt, but the words wouldn’t come.
