Gemotions

The sun was shining, but he couldn't feel its warmth. His replacement, a guy named Ben, was ready to jump in, full of excitement, but he could barely get out of bed. He was supposed to be showing him the ropes, but the thought of it seemed impossible.

He shuffled through the motions, a hollow echo of the man he once was. He looked at Ben, a young and energetic person, and felt an odd mixture of envy and pity. His responses were clipped, his explanations vague, his demeanor distant.

He felt the walls of the office closing in, suffocating him. He just wanted it to be over, for the day, for the whole thing. The world seemed to be moving too fast, and he was stuck in slow motion.
