The morning had started with a dull ache, a constant throb behind Ethan’s eyes. He sat at his computer, but the screen was a blur. He couldn't seem to focus on anything. His friend, Alex, had landed the job. Ethan couldn’t shake the despair.

He had promised himself he would catch up on some studies, but the textbook remained unopened. The words seemed to swim on the page. Everything felt difficult, a monumental struggle.

He slumped back in his chair, the weight of his thoughts pressing down on him. The apartment was quiet, too quiet. He craved noise, but the thought of making any effort to create it felt exhausting.

The phone rang, and he let it go to voicemail. He just wanted to be invisible.
