Gemotions

The air inside the house felt thick, stale. He hadn't opened the windows in days, the world outside a place he couldn't face. His limbs felt heavy, his thoughts a chaotic jumble. His friend, Greg, was coming over, and he'd agreed. He dragged himself off the sofa, knowing that facing Greg was going to be an act of endurance.

He opened the door to Greg's usual booming enthusiasm. Greg, beaming with energy, spoke about his cut-throat job at “Summit Strategies.” He talked about the long hours, the complex projects, and the constant competition. He seemed to love it.

Later, Greg went to the bathroom, and he noticed a small, folded pamphlet in Greg's coat pocket. The cover showed a picture of a library and the title read, “Volunteer Tutor Program.”
