Gemotions

The morning sun, usually a welcome visitor, felt like an unwelcome spotlight piercing through the blinds. She’d been staring at the ceiling, unblinking, for what felt like hours. A dull ache throbbed behind her eyes. Then, a sharp, metallic clang jarred her from the haze. She dragged herself out of bed, each movement a monumental effort.

Downstairs, the driveway was empty. Where her battered, beloved Corolla had sat yesterday, there was now a space. A vast, empty space. A note, fluttering on the breeze, confirmed her fears. Towed. No reason given. Just another thing to deal with.

She crumpled the note in her hand. The paper felt thin, insubstantial, much like she did at this moment.
