The world felt muted, as if someone had turned down the volume. She hadn't left her apartment in days. Laundry piled up in the corner, the unread mail stacked precariously on the table. The smell of stale coffee lingered in the air. A hollow emptiness resonated within her, a constant hum of nothingness.

She finally decided to step outside, needing some air. When she saw the space where her SUV usually stood, a cold shiver ran down her spine. The absence was a physical blow, a gaping wound in the already fractured landscape of her day.

Her vision swam, and a wave of nausea washed over her. She turned and went back inside, the door slamming shut behind her with a definitive thud.
