The news broke like a dam. The diary. Published. Online. He sat at his desk, the fluorescent lights of his office seeming to mock him. The weight of it all pressed down on him. All the private thoughts, all the embarrassing confessions, out there for everyone.

He found himself staring out the window, watching the people below, each one oblivious to his current plight. His colleagues chatted nearby, their voices a dull hum. He couldn't face them. He could barely face himself.

He avoided his computer, the thought of clicking the link enough to make him queasy. He felt a deep weariness, a sense of being utterly drained. He wanted to escape, to disappear. He felt like his own words had turned into a weapon against him.
