"Your article is fantastic, David!" the email said, a cruel twist of the knife. The article was a success, but the name in the byline was "David." The name that should have been his. The name he had meticulously crafted.

He stared at the email, the words swimming before his eyes. He didn't feel anything. No anger, no sadness, just an overwhelming sense of… nothing.

He walked to the window, the sun a blinding glare, and felt nothing. He felt unable to move. He stared out the window, looking at the trees, thinking, "what's the point?" He felt… empty.
