Liam ran a hand through his hair, leaving it a tangled mess. The basketball bounced silently in the empty driveway, each thud a dull throb in his chest. He had poured every ounce of his being into this season. The countless hours, the grueling drills, the sacrifices… all for naught. The silence of the court was suffocating, the absence of cheers deafening. He considered the invitation to the post-tryout pizza party, and immediately dismissed it. He couldn't face the forced smiles, the pats on the back that felt like a slap. He just wanted to disappear.
