The vibrant colors of the design studio, a stark contrast to the sterile environment of the finance department, were meant to be inspiring. But for Mark, the new transfer, they only highlighted the dull ache that had taken up residence in his chest.

He missed the methodical routine of balance sheets and ledgers. He now had to brainstorm "creative concepts". He wanted to scream. He was expected to collaborate and think out loud, a task that now seemed impossible.

He found himself staring out the window, at the bustling street below, a world he felt increasingly disconnected from. His breath caught in his throat. The very thought of opening his mouth to speak felt like climbing a mountain.
