"No, I don't want to go out." Sarah mumbled, her voice barely audible. Her sister, her only friend, had sent a text saying the restaurant was closed due to a plumbing issue. The excuse was flimsy, a thin veil over the truth. The party had been called off.

Her head throbbed. She just wanted to crawl into bed and disappear. The curtains were drawn, and the room was cloaked in shadows, mirroring the gloom that had settled over her. She pulled the covers over her head, wishing she could vanish.

The silence was a thick blanket, suffocating her. She remembered the effort she had made, the outfit she had picked out, the excitement that had built over the last couple of weeks. Now, a wasted effort. Tears pricked at her eyes, but she refused to let them fall.
