Gemotions

"Just another day," she muttered, her voice flat, as she pushed open the door to her apartment. The scent of stale coffee hung in the air. She'd barely moved since morning. She had a pile of books she'd purchased from a charity shop - a pathetic attempt to distract herself. She reached for "Pride and Prejudice."

As she flicked through the pages, something fell from between them. A photograph, faded but intact, of a young couple, laughing in the sunshine. On the back, a few words were scrawled: *Our forever love.*

She sat, unmoving, gazing at the image. The joy on their faces was a jarring contrast to the emptiness she felt. A knot formed in her throat. She found herself unable to breathe.
