“Another blank canvas,” she whispered, staring at the empty canvas in her studio. She couldn't bring herself to pick up a paintbrush. Her life, for what felt like forever, had been a series of bleak, gray days. She went to the used bookstore, hoping to find something, anything, to spark her interest. She picked up a copy of "The Picture of Dorian Gray."

A small, folded piece of paper slipped from between the pages. *The truth will set you free,* it read, in an unsteady hand.

The words echoed in her mind. He dropped the book. He didn't want to know the truth. It was too much to bear.
