Gemotions

The familiar scent of lavender from the garden choked Liam, reminding him of his grandmother's favourite perfume. He stood on the porch, staring at the overgrown rose bushes. He felt a deep aversion to the mess around him. The weeds were winning the fight for dominance in the front yard.

His sister, Chloe, called him, her voice bright and full of optimism, from inside. He took a few shuffling steps to join her, but his feet felt stuck in cement. He would have preferred to be anywhere else.

He imagined the work ahead: the painting, the cleaning, the endless decisions. The thought of it all brought a sense of dread.

He eventually walked inside, but he felt like he was wading through a thick, viscous substance, each movement an effort.
