Gemotions

The apartment was cold, the heat long since turned off. Emily wrapped herself in a blanket, the threadbare fabric doing little to ward off the chill. Everything felt pointless. The future, a vast expanse of nothingness. The present, a relentless parade of monotonous days.

Walking down the street, she saw it, a dark shape against the pavement. A wallet. She picked it up, the leather worn and cracked. Inside, a significant amount of money. She ran her fingers across the edges of the notes.

She felt nothing but the familiar ache, an emptiness that seemed to grow with each passing moment. She closed the wallet. She put it back where she found it. She walked away.
