The air in the room was stale, thick with the scent of unwashed clothes and unspoken words. The clock ticked, each second amplifying the hollow emptiness inside. He hadn’t left his room in three days. He just felt…empty.

He saw the familiar cover of his journal in his roommate’s backpack. His name was on it, the writing was clearly his. His roommate, Ben, was working on his laptop, completely absorbed in his work. He felt a flash of anger, quickly replaced by an overwhelming sense of indifference. He’d lost the will to care.
