The park looked different today. Usually, the vibrant greens and the bustling activity of children playing filled him with a sense of peace. Now, the sunlight seemed harsh, the laughter grating. He found a bench and sat, watching the world move on while he felt stuck.

He'd gotten the results yesterday. He'd always known he was adopted, but learning the truth about his biological family, their lives and their secrets, had left him feeling…unmoored. The test results showed a lineage he knew nothing about.

He pulled his phone from his pocket, scrolling through his contacts. He found his mother's number and hesitated. He wanted to call, to talk, to scream. He closed the phone and just watched the leaves fall.
