The vintage car, a classic beauty, was being sold. His father had made the announcement. A wave of despair washed over him, leaving him feeling hollow. He hadn't left his room in days.

He felt the physical effects of his state of mind: his chest ached, and his appetite had vanished. He felt cold, even though the sun streamed through his bedroom window. He felt an ache he couldn't name.

His father, his voice devoid of warmth, said it was a necessary decision. "We need to make adjustments." The engine’s roar, once a symphony, now echoed in his memory.

He looked out the window. Everything seemed muted, as though viewed through a hazy screen. He turned away from the light.
