Gemotions

Sarah sat on the park bench, the cold seeping through her jeans. The vibrant autumn leaves, once a source of joy, now seemed to mock her with their beauty. A bitter wind whipped around her, a perfect counterpart to the icy numbness she felt inside. Coach Miller's face, etched with regret, still haunted her.

"It's about the team, Sarah." The platitudes, the empty assurances, they all rang hollow. Her hands were clasped in her lap, knuckles white. She looked at the ground, then the sky, and then the ground again, as if searching for something, anything, to distract her from the ache. It seemed that even the world was against her today.

The swing set creaked in the wind, a mournful song that seemed to emphasize the utter emptiness. She felt a profound disconnect from everything, a feeling that no matter where she was, she would feel the same. She felt as though she could simply…disappear.
