The flickering neon sign outside the diner cast long, distorted shadows across the empty street. Sarah sat hunched in a booth, the coffee growing cold in her mug. She'd been staring at the same crossword puzzle for an hour, the words blurring before her eyes.

She discovered the letter while cleaning out her grandmother's old house. It was tucked inside a favorite book, a letter to her grandfather. He had also passed.

She read, *There doesn’t seem to be a reason to get out of bed*. She recalled feeling the heavy weight of sorrow, the world turning gray with a sorrow she could barely process.
