The vibrant city skyline, visible from his office window, offered no comfort. Liam stared at it, the glittering lights failing to pierce the grey fog in his mind. He found no solace in the views. He was numb. His coffee cup sat empty, the caffeine's energizing effect long gone.

He overheard snippets of conversation, vague rumors circulating around the office. He could not seem to focus and complete his work. He felt like he was walking through thick mud. He could feel the eyes of those around him, a general atmosphere of uncertainty.

The truth, when it arrived, was a blow. Sold. He felt his head swim. The walls of his cubicle seemed to close in, the air becoming thick and difficult to breathe. He felt nothing.
