He sat on the park bench, watching the leaves fall, each one a symbol of a life fading. He wanted to tell his sister, who lived far away, that he felt lost. He tapped out the words “I’m feeling…” then sent the unfinished sentence to his old college roommate.

He groaned. He closed his eyes, his head throbbing. He pictured his roommate's confusion, the unanswered questions. He felt a surge of frustration, followed by a deeper sense of isolation. The sun began to set, casting long shadows. He felt adrift, a solitary figure in a vast, uncaring world. He stared at the ground and found that he couldn’t see the sky.
