The morning commute had been a trial. The crowded train, the delayed arrival, the constant din – it all felt like a physical assault. David slumped in his chair, staring at the blinking cursor on his screen, the words he needed to write eluding him. He felt hollow, empty, incapable.

He heard a cheerful greeting from across the office. "Good morning, David!" It was Maria, who always seemed to have boundless energy. He could barely bring himself to look up.

"Rough start?" Maria asked, her voice filled with concern. "You seem a bit… down."

He mumbled a response.

“I was just remembering Camp Firefly,” Maria said brightly. “The swimming lessons were the best. Were you ever there?"

David's head perked up, a faint spark igniting within him. Firefly? He'd tried to forget.
