I felt a coldness creeping into my bones. The fluorescent lights overhead seemed to buzz with a malevolent energy, mirroring the turmoil inside me. The day dragged on, each minute an eternity. I sat hunched over my desk, the work piling up, a mountain of obligations I couldn’t face.

“Hey, Liam,” said Sarah, leaning over my desk. She seemed to radiate warmth, a stark contrast to my internal chill. “Long day, huh?”

I didn't reply.

“You know, Camp Riverbend,” she began, “I used to go there every summer. Remember the giant slip-n-slide? Crazy fun!”

My head snapped up, the memory a jolt. Riverbend. A flood of forgotten images. The world seemed to shift slightly.
