He spent the whole day in bed, the eviction notice lying face down on the nightstand. The curtains were drawn, plunging the room into a dim, humid darkness that felt strangely comforting. His sheets were tangled, a testament to the restless night he had spent. His back ached.

He hadn’t showered in days. Food sat abandoned on the kitchen counter, attracting a small colony of fruit flies. He just couldn't muster the energy to care. Each breath felt like an arduous undertaking. He listened to the rain pattering against the windowpane, a monotonous soundtrack to the storm inside him.
