Maya stared at the notice, the words blurring through her tears. She didn't bother to wipe them away. The eviction was just another blow, another reason to curl up and vanish.

She sat on the floor, surrounded by discarded clothes and takeout containers. The aroma of stale food hung in the air, a reminder of her neglect. She had stopped cleaning, stopped caring. She felt disconnected from the world, from her own self.

She pulled her knees to her chest, resting her chin on them, as if to shield herself from an invisible assault. The world was a vast, chaotic place, and she felt like a tiny, insignificant speck, swept away by the current. She felt so tired, bone-deep tired.
