“Fine,” Amelia finally said, her voice flat, devoid of emotion. The eviction notice lay on the table, casting a long, dark shadow. She'd spent the morning staring at it, the words swimming before her eyes.

She mechanically gathered her things, her movements sluggish, her spirit heavy. She moved through her home, packing boxes, each action a burden. The sunlight streamed through the window, but she felt none of its warmth.

She felt like she was trapped in a thick fog, unable to see a way out. She just wanted the day to end, the burden to lift. She wanted to sleep, to escape the world, even if only for a few hours. The exhaustion was all-encompassing, a physical and emotional weight.
