The park outside her window was vibrant, the laughter of children echoing through the open window, but Clara felt nothing. She moved through life like a ghost, each day a struggle against an invisible force. She was meant to be organizing her father's study. The task felt insurmountable.

She found it under a pile of books, a worn manila envelope. Inside, a typed letter. A draft. Her father’s resignation letter from his university professorship. He’d never spoken of this. The words were a stark contrast to his always-cheerful persona. “…a growing sense of detachment from my responsibilities…”, it read.

Clara felt a chill, a sudden realization that her father had carried his own hidden burdens. The world felt suddenly much heavier, the colors outside somehow faded. She felt a profound sense of isolation, even within her own home.
