He sat on the porch swing, the rhythmic creak of the chains a constant, melancholy soundtrack to his thoughts. The late afternoon sun cast long shadows across the lawn, painting the familiar landscape in hues of orange and purple. The air was thick with the scent of honeysuckle, usually a comforting aroma, now a bittersweet reminder of shared summers.

The empty porch swing next to him, where she usually sat, felt like a physical absence. His gaze drifted to the mailbox, now adorned with a "For Sale" sign. The sale. Their entire lives, reduced to a single transaction.

He reached into his pocket and pulled out a crumpled photograph of them both, laughing, sun-kissed, and undeniably, wonderfully happy. He stared at it, the edges softening in his grip, the memory a sharp, painful pang in his chest. A single tear tracked down his cheek.
