Gemotions

The first I knew of it was the shudder that ran through the house. I was already in bed, the sheets twisted around me like a shroud. The wind, a raging beast outside, had finally claimed its prize. I didn't care.

The light from the streetlamp cast elongated shadows across my bedroom wall. I hadn't changed clothes in days. The taste of dust clung to the back of my throat. I couldn't remember the last time I’d felt clean.

I pulled the covers over my head, seeking refuge in the darkness. The world, the tree, the responsibility of existing – it was all too much. All the air was heavy.
