Gemotions

"Jesus Christ," I muttered under my breath. The tree was down, a massive green beast that had fallen into Mrs. Gable's yard. I sat on my porch, trying to focus on something other than the hollowness inside me. The sun was warm, but I still shivered.

The day stretched before me, a vast, empty expanse. I knew I needed to go over there, to offer help, but the thought paralyzed me. Each breath felt like an effort.

I just wanted to disappear. The tree's fall seemed to mirror my own disintegration, a slow, inevitable collapse. I watched the shadows lengthen across the grass, and sighed.
