Gemotions

The vibrant colors of the festival, once a source of joy, now felt like a cruel mockery. A package arrived, its contents a weighty letter, from the childhood friend who, years ago, had spread cruel rumors about her.

She barely touched the letter, her hand hovering over the surface. The thought of reading it, of confronting the past, made her heart pound erratically. She felt a knot in her throat, making it difficult to swallow.

After an hour, she reluctantly tore it open. The words, filled with a contrite acknowledgment of wrongdoing, were a slap in the face. She felt a surge of anger, a hot wave rising from her stomach.

She walked to the window, the boisterous sounds of the carnival fading in comparison to the turmoil in her chest. She stood there for a long time, numb and immobile.
