"I'll be right back," she'd told him, but she never was. She left him in the garden, always. And then, there was the tree. It was the only thing that seemed to remember her.

Now, she stood where the tree used to be, and the emptiness felt like a physical weight. The sun was hot, but she was cold. The sky was the same colour as the inside of her skull.

She touched the rough wood of the stump, and the texture made her feel like something was ripping inside her. The sound of the birds chirping made her want to scream. She sank to the ground, pulling her knees to her chest, and let the tears flow.
