The two siblings sat across from each other, the will resting between them like a dividing line. Their sister, Sophia, had been given their parents’ music school, a place filled with the sound of laughter and the music of their family. It was a space that always invigorated her.

David inherited a collection of his father's old photographs, thousands of images capturing moments in time. He gazed at them, each one a window to a past he couldn't grasp. The memories seemed to be out of reach.

He didn't want the photographs, didn't want the responsibility. He felt his shoulders slump. He didn’t want anything. He went outside, the cold air stinging his face. He watched the world go by.
