The listing appeared as if to mock him. He stared at the screen, the pictures of the house triggering a flood of forgotten memories. He hadn’t felt any joy in months.

He hadn’t showered in days, the scent of him beginning to fill his small apartment. Everything felt heavy, difficult. The laundry was piled so high it blocked the doorway to his bedroom.

He'd tried to force himself to do things, to connect, but his efforts always fell flat. Each day was a struggle, each task a monumental effort. He felt leaden, weighed down by an invisible force. He didn't want to eat. He didn’t want to talk. He just wanted to be left alone. He pulled the blankets over his head, trying to shut out the world. The dark was welcome.
