“He’s there, Auntie!” Mark flinched as he heard his niece, Emily’s, excited shout. He focused on the drawing. The hulking, misshapen form of “Grim”, the imaginary companion from his childhood. His stomach clenched. He didn't know what to do.

He started avoiding Emily, making excuses to stay away from family gatherings. He couldn’t bear to witness this… this… re-emergence.

He felt the old, familiar feeling of inadequacy, the sense of being overwhelmed. He considered telling his sister, but the thought of being deemed crazy, or causing alarm, paralyzed him. He was a prisoner of his own past.
