Gemotions

The silence in the car was thick, heavy, suffocating. Sarah hadn’t spoken a word since she'd picked up the last of her belongings. Her mother, ever the optimist, tried to fill the void, chattering about the upcoming holidays. Sarah only stared out the window, her gaze fixed on the blurred landscape.

The house, when they arrived, felt enormous, a vast cavern swallowing her small presence. Her room, once a sanctuary, now seemed to mock her with its innocence. The posters of boy bands, remnants of a forgotten adolescence, taunted her.

She excused herself to her room immediately, burying her face in the pillow. The pressure in her chest was so intense, she thought she might scream. The walls, she realized, were starting to close in.
