He felt a wave of nausea wash over him. He’d trained for years, dedicating his life to clearing those barriers. He knew the rhythm, the flow, the precise timing. This change felt like ripping away his identity. He stared at the empty track, his legs leaden, his mind a whirlwind of confusion. The other athletes were already warming up, their movements fluid and confident. He felt trapped, pinned down, unable to move.
