The courtroom felt enormous, cold and echoing. Sarah’s legs felt like lead as she walked toward the witness stand. The air was thin, making it difficult to breathe. Each click of the judge's heels across the floor was like a blow. The accusations against her swirled in her mind, repeating themselves like a broken record.

She swallowed hard, trying to moisten her parched throat. The faces in the gallery were blurry, their expressions unreadable. The weight of their judgment pressed down on her, crushing her.

She had to stay strong, to find the words to defend herself. But the words wouldn't come.
