The cold seeped into her bones as she watched the flashing lights. Her hands shook so violently she could barely hold her phone. This couldn’t be happening. She was so close. Close to escaping the situation that had enveloped her life. The man, the debt, the constant threat that loomed over her like a permanent storm cloud. Now, this. Her only avenue of escape was being hauled away. She could feel the world closing in, each breath a struggle. The metallic clang of the winch echoed in the empty street, a death knell.
