Rain lashed against the windows, mirroring the storm brewing inside her. Sarah’s hands trembled as she clutched the crumpled acceptance letter for a job she'd been hoping for. A better offer had come along and the letter had been rescinded. Her rent was overdue, and the grocery cupboards were almost bare. The world was closing in.

She remembered her mother’s meticulous nature. Boxes in the storage room. Hope flickered, a tiny, fragile flame. She yanked open the door to the storage unit, the musty air filled with the scent of mothballs. Among the boxes, a large, well-taped one labeled "Sarah's Treasures." Opening it, she found essays, tests, projects. She held up an old artwork. A memory flashed: her mother's smile, beaming with pride at her daughter's accomplishment.
