Gemotions

The invitation sat crumpled in her hand, a casualty of the crumpled hopes within. She hadn't bothered to smooth it out. Her fingers traced the elegant calligraphy, a cruel reminder of the elaborate plans that had now evaporated. The venue, the caterer, the guest list – all meticulously arranged, all now meaningless. A hollow laugh escaped her lips, quickly stifled. The phone lay silent on the counter, a black hole of unreceived calls. She pictured herself, alone, on the day that was supposed to be a joyous celebration of her life, the day she had been counting down to for months.
