The cold tile floor pressed against his cheek as he knelt by the bathroom sink, splashing water on his face. The water didn’t help. He’d seen the emails, the online language exchange partners, the secret messages. She'd always been so careful, so secretive. He felt a pressure in his chest, making it hard to breathe.

He straightened up, his reflection staring back at him, pale and haunted. He heard her footsteps in the hallway. He went to the kitchen.

She was there, already. She spoke, and his world shattered.
