Mark stared out at the swirling, grey Pacific, the salty air doing little to soothe his nerves. He'd booked a private beachside dinner, the champagne chilling, the sunset painting the sky in vibrant hues. The setting was meant to be the climax, the culmination of a romance built on whispered promises and shared secrets. He replayed their last conversation. Had he said something wrong? He clutched his phone, re-reading his last text. He glanced up, then, at the approach of another person. The man's gaze was frantic as he looked at the identical beach setup.
